Location: Community in India
Project Type: Installation of a deep well and hand pump
Impact: Provides easy and reliable access to clean drinking water, reducing the need for villagers—especially women and children—to walk long distances to fetch water.
India’s growing water needs are becoming an urgent national concern due to rapid population growth, urbanization, industrialization, and agricultural demands. As one of the most populous countries in the world, India requires vast amounts of water for drinking, irrigation, and daily use. However, uneven rainfall and pollution of rivers and lakes have created serious water stress in many regions. Rural areas often face shortages for farming and household needs, while cities struggle with rising demand and aging infrastructure. Meeting India’s water needs requires sustainable management of resources through improved irrigation efficiency, rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, and public awareness about conservation. Ensuring equitable access to clean and safe water is essential for the country’s health, food security, and long-term development.
